As a global corporation comprised of over 30 different companies, Ingersoll-Rand (IR) needed a centralized, cost-effective way to disperse company information to employees. IR had a company Intranet, but it was rarely updated and not widely used by employees.

To combat the static nature of the site, IR wanted a way for content owners to easily update information on the site without the assistance of IT personnel. IR also wanted to incorporate a feature that would allow employees to search all of IR’s business units and databases, as well as the external Internet.

PartnerComm was hired to create a unified look and feel for the new Intranet. We chose the name “My IR” to create a sense of company unity across the business units. We also customized the content management tool to allow benefits managers to update content easily and developed a user interface for the search engine. Overall success? Based on “hits,” associates are utilizing the new site. The old Intranet site averaged 15,000 daily hits, but My IR gets around 180,000 to 200,000 hits daily (with 13,000 unique users).
